CNPP Chief Cautions Against Violence
Alhaji Abba Sidi of the Sokoto State chapter of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), has cautioned Nigerians against violence in the struggle against the removal of oil subsidy.
Riots have been reported in some parts of the country after government announced the removal of the subsidy on petrol.
The action has shot up the prices of fuel by more than 100 percent with a litre selling for between N137 and N150, instead of the former official price of N65.
Sidi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto on Thursday that “an open confrontation†was not the solution to the matter, especially in view of the current security realities of the nation.
“Nigerians should rather channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters and not make moves that would destroy the nation.â€
He also called on the Federal Government to consider the plight of the ordinary Nigerian before taking hard decisions, pointing out that there was massive poverty in the land.
