Traveller nabbed with firearm in Edo

Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps have arrested a 25-year-old man, Umar Abdullahi, for allegedly being in possession of a firearm in Benin City.

The suspect was apprehended at about 2am at Akara Junction in the Aduwawa area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area during a routine patrol.

Security personnel said Abdullahi, who claimed he was travelling from Bauchi State, could not clearly state his destination or provide a convincing explanation for his presence in the area at that hour. His responses reportedly raised suspicion among the patrol team.

A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size gun.

The Deputy Commander of Operations of the Edo based Corps, Richard Balogun, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
