A yet-to-be-identified man was reportedly killed by a mob on Wednesday morning after allegedly obstructing traffic along the FMC–OSAMCA corridor of the Idi-Aba–Kemta–OGTV road in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to eyewitnesses, the man blocked one lane of the four-lane carriageway around 10:20 a.m., carrying heavy metal objects in both hands. His actions reportedly caused a near 30-minute gridlock, leaving motorists and pedestrians stranded amid fears for their safety, The Nation reports.
Distress calls were said to have been made to the Kemta Division of the Nigeria Police Force, but before officers arrived, local youths reportedly confronted the man.
Witnesses say he was struck repeatedly with wooden objects.
By the time police got to the scene, the man was unconscious. Despite attempts to clear the road and ease the traffic, members of the crowd allegedly continued to assault him.
Authorities have yet to confirm the identity of the deceased or release further details on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
