Nollywood actor Benedict Johnson has opened up about a difficult period in his career, revealing that he went five years without getting any acting role in the Nigerian film industry.
The actor shared the revelation during a church service at Streams of Joy International in Abuja, led by Pastor Jerry Eze, where he gave a testimony about his journey and eventual breakthrough.
In a video that has since circulated widely on social media, Johnson explained that throughout those five years, no producer or director contacted him for any movie project.
According to him, the silence was painful because he never received any explanation for why he suddenly stopped getting roles.
“The industry is not like a regular office where you can ask why you lost your job. One day, the calls just stopped coming,” he said.
Despite the challenging period, Johnson said he remained steadfast in his faith and continued trusting God for a turnaround.
The actor revealed that the situation eventually led him to relocate to Abuja so he could attend prayer programmes at Streams of Joy International.
He noted that some colleagues discouraged the decision, pointing out that Abuja is not widely known as a major hub for movie production compared to Lagos. However, he said he remained committed to his spiritual journey.
Johnson disclosed that things began to change at the start of 2026, noting that he has already appeared in about twelve movie projects since January.
He further revealed that new opportunities have opened up internationally, with invitations to participate in movie productions in Germany and the United States.
The actor expressed gratitude for the turnaround in his career, describing it as a testimony of perseverance and faith.
During the same church service, Johnson also spoke about a health challenge faced by his daughter, revealing that she had battled a serious illness but is now recovering.
