The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced it will release nearly 50,000 previously withheld files linked to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein later this week. The documents are believed to contain unverified claims involving President Donald Trump.

The files were part of a larger tranche of documents released in January under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a law signed by Trump in late 2025 mandating that the DOJ publish most records related to the Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases. Nearly 47,635 records were taken “offline for further review” after media analysis showed they were missing from the public archive, the DOJ confirmed.

Officials said the documents were withheld not to conceal information but to ensure that sensitive material, including victims’ personal details or evidence that could affect ongoing investigations, is properly redacted before public release. The DOJ added that all responsive files should be ready for “re‑production by the end of the week.”

Among the records expected to be re‑released are FBI notes from 2019 interviews with a woman who alleged that Epstein introduced her to Trump and later claimed the US President assaulted her as a minor in the 1980s. The FBI’s earlier summary did not include these follow-up interview notes. Trump has denied all allegations.

The DOJ has previously stated that some files contain “untrue and sensationalist claims” submitted by members of the public, stressing that the department did not withhold documents simply because they could embarrass public officials.

Trump has consistently denied any wrongdoing and said his friendship with Epstein ended long before Epstein’s 2008 conviction for procuring a minor for prostitution.
