Newly appointed Iran’s military head killed in Israeli strike

Iran Head of Military

Abu al‑Qassem Baba’iyan, who was recently appointed to oversee Iran’s Supreme Leader’s military bureau and emergency command operations, was eliminated in an Israeli airstrike in the Iranian capital on Sunday

Israel’s military says it has killed the newly appointed head of the Supreme Leader’s military office in Tehran.

According to an official statement released by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), Abu al‑Qassem Baba’iyan, who was recently appointed to oversee Iran’s Supreme Leader’s military bureau and emergency command operations, was eliminated in an Israeli airstrike in the Iranian capital on Sunday.

The IDF said Baba’iyan was responsible for coordinating between Iran’s military and other regime institutions involved in planning and executing operations against Israel.

His appointment came only days after his predecessor was killed in earlier strikes, signalling continued pressure on Tehran’s military hierarchy.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz and senior military officials were briefed on the operation, which is part of a broader campaign against Iran’s command infrastructure following the outbreak of open conflict earlier this month.

Israeli sources describe the elimination of Baba’iyan as a targeted decapitation of a key figure who had just taken up his post.

This strike comes amid a series of coordinated Israeli and U.S. military actions against Iranian targets, including earlier strikes that killed several senior commanders and reportedly Iran’s Supreme Leader
