Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area in response to renewed communal violence in parts of the council area.

The directive was announced on Sunday night through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humeashi Wonosikou, who described the disturbances as “unacceptable” and stressed that security agencies are to strictly enforce the curfew.

“The curfew is effective immediately and will remain in place until further notice. Governor Fintiri has also directed security agencies to maintain law and order in the area,” the statement read.

Residents of Lamurde were urged to comply with the curfew and provide useful information to security agencies to help restore peace. Fintiri reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that acts of violence would not be tolerated.

The curfew comes amid renewed clashes between the Chobo and Bachama communities in Lamurde.
