Elected officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State have passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Governor Seyi Makinde, praising his administration’s governance record and pledging unity within the party as preparations begin for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced after a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held on Sunday at Jagz Hotel in the Iyaganku area of Ibadan, where PDP elected representatives across various levels of government and key party leaders gathered to review governance in the state and discuss the party’s political direction.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Oyo State PDP Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, said participants commended the governor for what they described as prudent management of state resources and commitment to transparency and accountability.
Ogungbenro said stakeholders also applauded the administration’s focus on workers’ welfare, particularly the regular payment of salaries and pensions.
He added that the meeting acknowledged the government’s efforts in clearing inherited gratuity arrears exceeding ₦36 billion, while noting the governor’s assurance that all gratuities accruing during his tenure would be fully settled before the end of his administration.
“The stakeholders unanimously commended the governor for his prudent management of resources and commitment to transparency and accountability in governance,” Ogungbenro said.
Participants at the meeting also pointed to major infrastructure projects being undertaken by the state government, particularly the Ibadan Circular Road project and the ongoing upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola Airport to international standard.
They noted that the projects are expected to expand economic opportunities, open up new investment corridors and stimulate long-term economic growth across the state.
Beyond governance issues, the meeting also addressed internal challenges affecting some zones and local government areas within the party.
Stakeholders agreed that necessary steps would be taken to resolve the issues and strengthen unity across party structures in the state.
They reaffirmed the PDP’s cohesion and stability in Oyo State, urging party leaders and members to place the collective interest of the party above personal ambitions.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, participants resolved to remain united under the PDP platform and work collectively to sustain the party’s political dominance in the state.
The meeting was attended by members of the House of Representatives including Adedeji Stanley Olajide, Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, Oyesina Najimdeen Oyedeji and Sunday Makanjuola.
Also present was Folajimi Oyekunle, while the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, led PDP lawmakers from the Assembly to the gathering.
Party executives, local government chairmen and PDP leaders from across the state also attended the meeting.
The stakeholders concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold the ideals of unity, discipline and loyalty within the party while supporting the Makinde administration to deliver more developmental projects and improved welfare for residents of Oyo State.
