Airspace restrictions and extensive security arrangements will be enforced in Windsor, United Kingdom, ahead of the state visit of Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, which will be hosted by King Charles III next week.

Authorities say the measures are part of a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety of dignitaries, invited guests and members of the public expected to witness the historic event at Windsor Castle.

According to Thames Valley Police, the restrictions include temporary limits on airspace around Windsor on Wednesday, March 18, from 7 a.m. until 11:59 p.m., in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority.

The restrictions will supplement the permanent airspace controls already in place around Windsor Castle throughout the year.

Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall of the police force’s Joint Operations Unit said the airspace limitation is only one aspect of a wider security framework developed for the presidential visit.

He noted that the police have significant experience managing security during royal and state events in Windsor, adding that detailed planning and coordination with several partners had gone into preparations for the occasion.

Hall warned that anyone violating the temporary airspace restriction would be committing an offence under the Air Navigation Order and could face arrest.

Beyond the air restrictions, authorities will deploy large numbers of officers and specialist units across the town.

These include search teams, mounted police, roads policing units and armed officers, alongside neighbourhood patrol teams and Project Servator personnel tasked with engaging the public and detecting suspicious behaviour.

Officials also disclosed that Windsor’s extensive CCTV network will be actively monitored, while hostile vehicle mitigation barriers and other protective infrastructure will be installed to strengthen security during the visit.

In addition, several road closures and parking restrictions will take effect from Tuesday, March 17, with motorists warned to expect temporary traffic disruptions in and around Windsor throughout the event.

Police have urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity through the non-emergency line or by speaking with officers on duty. In the event of an immediate threat, members of the public are advised to contact emergency services.
