Nigerian comedian and preacher Woli Arole has expressed concern over what he described as declining parenting values among the current generation.
In a post shared on Instagram, Arole argued that parenting styles today appear weaker compared to those of previous generations, which he believes were more spiritually focused.
According to him, parents in earlier times were more actively involved in their children’s spiritual upbringing. He noted that many would pray for their children at midnight, anoint them with oil and take them to prayer mountains for spiritual guidance.
Arole said these practices, in his view, contributed to raising disciplined and well-rounded individuals.
However, he criticised what he described as a growing trend among some modern parents who prioritise nightlife, social media gossip and online conflicts instead of focusing on guiding their children.
“I fear for this generation. Our parents put anointing oil on our heads, prayed for us at midnight, took us to the mountain—see the product of those labours,” he wrote.
“Some people in this generation are going from club to club, with lives full of gossip and dragging on social media. What will be the product of their kids? Shisha baby!!!!”
