The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said that a recent decision by the Court of Appeal of Nigeria does not change the party’s current leadership.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the court dismissed the appeal because of procedural issues and did not make any decision about who should lead the party.
According to the statement, the ruling did not affect the positions of David Mark as National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary.
Abdullahi explained that the court did not decide the main leadership dispute. The case challenging the emergence of Mark and Aregbesola is still pending at the Federal High Court of Nigeria, where it has not yet been fully heard or decided.
He added that the Court of Appeal did not grant any request made by the person who filed the case and did not issue any order changing the party’s leadership.
Instead, the court told all parties to maintain the “status quo,” meaning the current leadership structure should remain the same until the Federal High Court makes a final decision.
Abdullahi urged ADC members and the public not to panic or be misled by incorrect interpretations of the judgment.
He said the ruling is only procedural and does not affect the legitimacy or tenure of the current national leadership.
He also said the party remains united and focused despite what he described as attempts by some forces to push Nigeria toward a one-party system.
