Police arrest suspect after deadly clash in Oyo

The Oyo State Police have apprehended a man, Giwa Sodiq, over a violent incident in Asalu Community, Lalupon, which resulted in the death of Kehinde, popularly known as “Ogo Ojigbo,” officials confirmed on Monday.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the victim’s body has been taken to Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue on Ring Road, Ibadan, pending autopsy and further investigations.
Initial inquiries suggest that community leaders contacted the Iyana-Offa Division after being alerted by local security guards to a disturbance involving several youths during the night.
Ayanlade said, “The injured individuals were immediately rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, for medical attention, where one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, also known as ‘Ogo Ojigbo,’ later succumbed to his injuries.”
He added, “Upon receipt of the report, a team of Police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Supol Iyana-Offa, promptly proceeded to the scene and the hospital. Photographs were taken for documentation purposes, and one suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was arrested in connection with the incident.”
The Police are continuing efforts to apprehend other suspects believed to have fled the scene.
Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna praised the swift response of officers and urged the public to remain alert and report any criminal activity. He also appealed, “to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects to come forward and assist the Police.”
The command called on residents to collaborate with security agencies to maintain safety and peace within their communities.
