Abuja–Kaduna train mishap leaves several passengers injured

Several passengers were injured on Monday after a train traveling from Abuja to Kaduna derailed following a collision near Asham.

The incident was confirmed by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, who spoke about the situation shortly after it happened.

According to him, the Abuja–Kaduna train experienced an unexpected problem while on its journey, which eventually caused it to derail near Asham.

The train was heading toward Kaduna when the incident occurred, leading to panic among passengers on board.

Opeifa explained that emergency responders and railway officials quickly moved to the scene to ensure the safety of passengers and provide immediate assistance to those who were injured.

Fortunately, at the time the report was filed, there were no confirmed deaths linked to the derailment.

However, several passengers sustained injuries of different degrees. Some reportedly suffered minor injuries due to the sudden movement and confusion that followed the derailment, while others required more serious medical attention.

The injured passengers were transported back to Idu Railway Station, where medical personnel were on standby to provide the necessary treatment and care. Railway officials also worked to calm passengers and ensure that everyone received assistance.

Authorities from the Nigerian Railway Corporation have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment.

According to Opeifa, technical teams are already examining the train, the track conditions, and other possible factors that may have contributed to the incident.

The Abuja–Kaduna railway line is one of the busiest rail routes in Nigeria, widely used by travelers because it offers a safer alternative to road transport along the Abuja–Kaduna highway.

Railway authorities have assured the public that safety remains a top priority and that steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future once the investigation is concluded.
