“I am not scared. I’ve been campaigning for so many years. People bashed me on the internet during campaign time,” she said. “They insulted me and said, a day to the election, that it was Asiwaju I was following who killed my child. But I care less.”

Veteran Nollywood actress Remilekun Oshodi, popularly known as Remi Surutu, has revealed that she was brutally mocked online over the death of her daughter after openly supporting President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 election campaign.

The actress made the emotional disclosure at the official launch of EKO57, a Lagos-based political support group backing Tinubu, where she recounted the painful attacks she received from trolls on social media.

In a now viral video from the event, the actress said some critics even blamed Tinubu for the death of her daughter simply because she campaigned for him.

“I am not scared. I’ve been campaigning for so many years. People bashed me on the internet during campaign time,” she said.

“They insulted me and said, a day to the election, that it was Asiwaju I was following who killed my child. But I care less.”

Despite the attacks, the actress said she remained determined and still went out to vote.

“I still went on the second day to vote. Your vote is your right. Don’t let anybody deceive you,” she said.

Surutu also defended Tinubu’s leadership, insisting that critics underestimate the difficulty of governing Nigeria.

“When I met B Tinubu, our Baba, he was doing well. If you think he has not done well, bring a man from your family and let him govern for just one day,” she said.

According to her, she has no intention of withdrawing her support for the president despite the backlash.

“I am not backing out. I will campaign for him and I will vote for him. He has my vote,” she declared.

The actress lost her first daughter, Ayomikun Elizabeth Oladayo, in July 2017 due to complications from Sickle Cell Disease.

Surutu had previously shared the pain of the loss publicly, thanking God for giving her strength to endure the tragedy.
