A Nigerian medical doctor, Oluwatamilore Adeyemi has called on the Federal and State governments to invest more on the health as the sector is rotting away due to inadequate funding.
Dr Adeyemi said this in an interview during a recent medical outreach to over 200 community members in Abeokuta while expressing his pleasure in reaching out to those in need through her profession.
She, however, called on the government for adequate funding for the sector for equipment and to keep our doctors and health practitioners in the country.
She said the federal and state governments should prioritize the health sector during their budget planning.
Adeyemi who organized an outreach for the people of Abeokuta said initiative was designed to thank God and those who believed in her after studying for so many years in the university with so many ups and downs.
She also maintained that most time people don’t know they have high blood Pressure until something happened and they were rushed to the hospital and that was one of the reasons for the organisation of the medical outreach.
“We are out here to give God the Glory and to say thank you by helping people out here. I am just grateful for the privilege to give back to my community who are today’s beneficiaries. We intend to do blood pressure (BP) and blood sugar test, and we will be giving out 50 BP machines to certain amount of people.
“The government at federal and state government needs to pump more money into the health sector to keep our doctors and health practitioners in the country. If they are well paid and have adequate equipment to work, no doctor will want to leave the country. Our government needs to do more in the health sectors,” she said.
“Some of the things that inspires us to do this is that many don’t know they have high BP they just know they go through stress every day and they believe it’s normal stress work. Some have been diagnosed, but don’t follow up on their medications. Looking at all these, we decided to do this test and then give out digital BP measurement machines to 50 people.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ogundeyi Abosede, expressed gratitude to God and the organizers while advising people to regularly visit hospital to check their health status to prevent untimely death.
