Organised labour in Nigeria is asking for a new minimum wage of N154,000 due to the increasing cost of living and economic hardship.
The demand was made by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC), which is part of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). In a letter signed by its leaders, Benjamin Anthony and Olowoyo Gbenga, the council called for an urgent increase in salaries and allowances for public workers.
They explained that the current wage is no longer enough because prices of food, transportation, and other basic needs have gone up significantly. As a result, many workers are struggling to survive.
