Morocco has said it is fully prepared for upcoming football competitions, including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), after winning an appeal over the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final result.
The Appeals Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) changed the original result of the AFCON final. Morocco was awarded a 3-0 victory after it was discovered that Senegal broke the rules during the match.
According to the decision, Senegal players left the pitch to protest a penalty decision. CAF ruled that this action went against the competition rules.
Senegal had originally won the match 1-0 after extra time, but Morocco challenged the result. Their first appeal was rejected, but the Appeals Board later ruled in their favour in what many see as a major decision.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation welcomed the ruling, saying it supports fairness and proper enforcement of rules in African football.
The federation added that the decision would improve the credibility and organisation of football competitions in Africa. It also said it remains committed to fair play and following the rules.
Morocco also expressed confidence ahead of future tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup and WAFCON.
WAFCON, which was first scheduled to hold from March 17 to April 3, has now been postponed. It will take place from July 25 to August 16 instead.
