“Come and package me!” – Portable publicly appeals to Don Jazzy
Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has stirred reactions online after questioning why some artists appear to lose prominence after leaving Mavin Records, the popular music label owned by Don Jazzy.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the singer openly called on the music executive to collaborate with him, suggesting that proper management and “packaging” from the label could elevate his career.
Portable also made bold claims about the careers of some artistes associated with the label, stating that only Tiwa Savage has maintained long-term success, while others have struggled to remain at the top.
“Don Jazzy, why is it that everyone who leaves your label don’t reign again? Come and package me and let’s partner. Even Rema is no more reigning. Only Tiwa Savage is reigning,” he said.
His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions among fans and industry watchers, with many debating the accuracy of his claims, especially regarding the success of artistes like Rema.
The development comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding Mavin Records, following allegations made by singer Crayon in a series of now-deleted social media posts. Crayon had accused Don Jazzy of withholding royalties and made other serious claims related to his personal life, including allegations surrounding his mother’s death.
He further alleged that funds collected on his behalf were not remitted and hinted at revealing more details about the label’s operations.
As of the time of filing this report, Don Jazzy has not publicly responded to either Portable’s comments or Crayon’s allegations.
