Amaechi Swears In 10 Acting Council Chairmen

Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Southsouth Nigeria, today swore in ten acting council chairmen to preside over affairs in the local council areas.

The ten acting council chairmen were sworn in following the suspension by the governor of eleven council chairmen in the state.

Those sworn in as acting council chairmen include Elder Sampson G. Egop (Andoni LGA), Bestman Amadi O. A. (Ikwerre); Stanley Benibo (Akuku-Toru); Imbremieye Sunday (Okrika); and George Allwell D. (Asari-Toru).

Others are Melford Ezebalike (Ahoada West); Ndidi Erim (Emohua); Nwaobakato Franklin (Ogba/Egbema/ Ndoni; Patrick Alapuberesika, Opobo/Nkoro, and Britain D. Ewor (Ahoada) East.

Governor Amaechi charged the new acting chairmen to work for the benefit of their people and not to misuse council funds.

“As acting chairmen, let me warn that your job is not to tamper with the resources of your people illegally,” he said.

On the suspension of the council chairmen, Governor Amaechi said: “the decision to suspend eleven council chairmen was taken with a lot of challenges in my mind but it was necessary to take that decision.”

Curiously, however, nobody was sworn in as Port Harcourt City Local Government Council chairman even when the chairman of the council, Mr Akarolo was one of those sacked today.
