“Dancing for movies? Not the best!” – Jide Kosoko speaks out
Veteran Nollywood actor, Jide Kosoko, has acknowledged that while dancing as a promotional strategy for movies may not be the most ideal approach, it has proven to be effective within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Kosoko made this known during an appearance on the TVC Breakfast Show on Friday, where he weighed in on the growing trend of actors using social media dance challenges and skits to promote their films.
According to him, although the method may not align with global standards of film promotion, it has delivered results locally, particularly for filmmakers like Funke Akindele.
“There is nothing bad about that style for her, but I’m telling you it is not the best. There should be a more organised way of promoting our movies,” he said.
The veteran actor noted that the primary goal of any promotional strategy is to generate returns, stressing that the effectiveness of the method justifies its use in Nigeria.
“Funke thought it was wise to do something that could bring attention, and she did it. And it’s working for her and a lot of us, too. At the end of the day, what you are looking for is returns,” he added.
Kosoko, however, pointed out that such strategies are not commonly practiced in other parts of the world, where film promotion tends to follow more structured and conventional methods.
“I’ve travelled a lot, and I know that people elsewhere, even actors, don’t dance about their movies. That is not the standard. But unfortunately, our environment is different,” he said.
