"I want to reassure residents that the Met remains absolutely committed to tackling knife crime and keeping Londoners safe. A proactive investigation is already well underway to identify and locate those responsible."

An investigation is underway following a double stabbing in a residential area of Dagenham, East London Saturday, March 21 where two men of unspecified age were attacked on Oval North Road at around 2.50pm and taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing, the Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement.

No arrests have been made in connection and enquiries are ongoing, the force added.

Superintendent Sharon Brind, responsible for policing in Dagenham, said: “Our thoughts are with the two individuals injured in this incident, and with their families and friends. This will understandably be deeply concerning for the local community.

“I want to reassure residents that the Met remains absolutely committed to tackling knife crime and keeping Londoners safe. A proactive investigation is already well underway to identify and locate those responsible.”

A cordon was erected at the Oval North Road entrance of The Leys country park, sealing the street off to traffic and pedestrians. Residents who witnessed the double stabbing or the moments leading up to it are asked to contact police as soon as possible.

Superintendent Brind added: “Officers will remain in the area to carry out enquiries and provide reassurance. If you saw anything or have any information – no matter how small – please come forward and speak to us.”

Elsewhere in London, officers are working to identify a knifeman who attacked two men in Hillingdon. The pair, both aged in their 20s, were found with stab wounds near West Drayton station shortly after 5.15pm on Friday.
