Veteran on-air personality Tolu Oniru popularly known as Toolz has recounted how one casual remark to Nigerian hip-hop star Vector unexpectedly led to the creation of one of 2014’s biggest hit collaborations.
During a conversation on X on Sunday, Toolz responded to a fan’s question: “Tell us a story that sounds fabricated but is 100% true. Music industry edition.”
Quoting her tweet, she said she jokingly told Vector that she could sing and rap. “His people set up a recording session and invited me. I showed up for a laugh, just thought it would be a fun hangout,” she wrote.
The casual hangout turned into the studio recording that produced the hit track Shiga, which went on to dominate charts and airwaves in 2014. Reflecting on the experience, Toolz joked, “I should sue for royalties sha.”
Toolz’s revelation also gives fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at her early involvement in music and her unexpected brush with the recording industry alongside Vector.
