An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on Lagos Island has convicted and sentenced a sales manager, Tracy Benibile, to two years and two months’ imprisonment for stealing ₦1,000,000 from her employer, Aromire Aromimure.
Her accomplice, Abiola Bosun, an electrician who provided his bank account for the transaction, was also sentenced to one year and eight months for his role in the offence.
Chief Magistrate Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku delivered the judgment after finding both defendants guilty at the end of a trial that lasted about five years, based on evidence presented by the police prosecutor, Inspector Hafsat Ajiboye. The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
According to the charge marked M/07/2021, the case began on May 18, 2021, when the complainant discovered discrepancies in her sales records and raised suspicion against her sales manager.
She subsequently petitioned the Assistant Commissioner of Police at Area A Command, Lagos Island.
During investigations, Benibile admitted to committing the fraud with the assistance of Bosun, who made his UBA account available for the transfer of the stolen funds. This led to Bosun’s arrest.
The court sentenced both convicts without the option of a fine.
