Nigerian music star Davido has revealed that he is no longer focused on winning Grammy Awards or seeking Western validation, as he enters a new phase in his career.
The award-winning singer made this known during an interview on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with Eddie Kadi, where he reflected on his journey and future direction in the music industry.
According to Davido, he has already achieved significant milestones, including performing on global stages, selling out major arenas, and earning multiple Grammy nominations over the past three years.
“This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years,” he said.
The singer explained that he is now more interested in returning to his roots by creating authentic African music rather than tailoring his sound to appeal to Western audiences.
“The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it, so I am not really looking to do Western sounds,” he added.
Davido also highlighted the strong support he enjoys in South Africa, claiming that a large percentage of the population is familiar with and appreciates his music.
Over the years, the Afrobeats star has collaborated with several South African artists and received multiple certifications within the country’s music industry.
