2027: Kwankwaso aligning with ex-APC guber candidate

Kano politics appears to be entering a new chapter as Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso publicly praised Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, raising speculation about a possible political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

The remarks came during a special delegation’s visit to Kwankwaso’s residence on Miller Road, Kano, and were captured in a video shared on Facebook by his aide, Saifullahi Hassan.

Kwankwaso described Gawuna as “one of the esteemed commissioners” and highlighted his integrity and respectfulness, even noting that past election pressures failed to sway him.

“Even when pressured after the election to sign a document, he refused. That shows his quality,” Kwankwaso said.

Addressing rumors that Gawuna might join the Kwankwasiyya movement, Kwankwaso added:

“Since I started hearing this, I have been pleased.”

Despite their past political rivalry—Gawuna ran under APC while Kwankwaso’s NNPP supported Abba Kabir Yusuf—Kwankwaso emphasized that Gawuna has always treated him with respect and never resorted to disparaging remarks.

“I have never heard him say anything insulting; he respects me greatly,” he said.
