The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has denied reports claiming that it has already chosen a candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
The party described the reports as false, speculative, and unnecessary. It said no such decision has been made and urged the public to ignore the claims.
Some media outlets had earlier reported that certain individuals were selected as consensus candidates for governorship positions in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. However, the reports did not mention any names or explain how the selections were made.
In a statement released in Ibadan, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, called on members and supporters to remain calm. He assured them that the party would follow proper democratic and constitutional processes when the time comes to select candidates for the 2027 elections.
According to the party, it has not yet started receiving applications or declarations from those interested in contesting. It stressed that it would not take any action that goes against the law or democratic principles.
The APC also emphasized that it operates in line with Nigeria’s Constitution, the Electoral Act, and its own party rules. It stated that all qualified members would be given a fair opportunity to contest when the process officially begins.
The party added that its current focus is on completing internal activities such as party congresses and preparing for its upcoming national convention in Abuja.
It also noted that the only confirmed decision so far is the endorsement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate for 2027.
Finally, the party reassured Nigerians that it would present candidates who are capable of serving the people and fulfilling their promises.
