Having previously declined Canada’s approach, he has now reconsidered and could feature in their World Cup plans if he makes the final roster.

Nigeria-born international goalkeeper, Owen Goodman has taken a significant step in his international career after earning a call-up from Canada ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations.

The 21-year-old shot-stopper currently on the books of Crystal Palace, who is eligible to play for Nigeria, Canada or England, previously prioritized a future with the Super Eagles, but was frustrated out over administrative lapses, which appear to have influenced his latest decision.

Goodman who previously engaged with Nigeria’s football authorities, including NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, was reportedly offered an invitation.

Absence of proper logistical arrangements however stalled his integration into the squad.

His inclusion would continue a growing trend of Nigerian-born talents representing Canada on the international stage.

Earlier in January 2026, Goodman returned to Crystal Palace following the early termination of his loan spell at Huddersfield Town, after gaining valuable experience during the 2024–25 season with AFC Wimbledon.

His patience in navigating international options shows maturity beyond his years, while his steady development through England’s competitive loan system highlights his professionalism and ambition.

Football enthusiasts are optimistic that at 21, he’s already demonstrating the qualities of a reliable future Number 1 on the international stage.
