Man, 34, docked for alleged murder of cousin

The police on Friday, dragged a 34-year-old-man, Chidiebere Okoro before an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court in Ebonyi, for allegedly being responsible for the murder of his cousin one Nnennaya Onu.

The defendant was charged on two-counts of conspiracy and murder. His plea was however, not taken by the court.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Chinedu Agama ordered that the defendant be remanded at the federal correctional centre, as the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.

Agama consequently, ordered that the case file be transferred to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice. He adjourned the case until April 9, for mention.

In the charge, the prosecutor, Mr. David Njoku, a Senior State Counsel alleged that Okoro committed the offences sometime in December 2021 at Amagu, Anike in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

He alleged that the defendant conspired with others now at large, to cause the death of his cousin sister, and set her ablaze. The offence contravenes the provisions of section 319 of the Criminal Law of Ebonyi State, 2009.
