The Rilwan Akiolu has urged residents of Lagos to uphold peaceful coexistence and mutual tolerance, describing harmony as essential for the state’s stability and Nigeria’s broader development.
Akiolu, represented by White Cap Chief, High Chief Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, made the call on Friday while receiving Islamic clerics led by the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, during their annual post-Eid al-Fitr visit to the palace.
The monarch stressed that unity among residents, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences, remains critical to sustaining peace and driving socio-economic growth in Lagos and across the country.
He also offered prayers for Bola Tinubu, seeking divine guidance, wisdom and strength for the President in steering the affairs of the nation, as well as for continued peace and progress nationwide.
Speaking earlier, Abou-Nolla underscored the enduring relationship between the Lagos Central Mosque and the palace, describing it as a strong platform for promoting interfaith understanding and social cohesion.
“The relationship between the palace and the central mosque is longstanding and cordial. It is a tradition that after Eid al-Fitr, we come to seek blessings and pray for peaceful coexistence in Lagos,” he said.
The Chief Imam urged Nigerians to sustain the discipline, sacrifice and spiritual lessons of Ramadan, noting that virtues such as patience, self-control and compassion must extend beyond the fasting period to everyday life.
He further called on leaders at all levels to prioritise good governance, while encouraging citizens to remain patriotic and committed to nation-building.
“We pray for our president and all leaders that God will guide them, and for ourselves that we remain steadfast in building a peaceful society,” he added.
Prayers were also offered for the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, with clerics seeking divine support for efforts to maintain law and order across the country.
The gathering reinforced the importance of collaboration between religious and traditional institutions in fostering unity, peace and national development.
