The head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of Vatican City, Pope Leo XIV, has spoken against violence and war, stating that God rejects war.
The Pope, while speaking during Palm Sunday Mass in St. Peter’s Square, recalled Jesus’ teachings to his disciples, stating that ‘those who live by the sword, shall die by the sword’.
The Pope also urged leaders to not encourage violence and war, claiming that Jesus rejects the prayers of those who wage war on others.
“Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen: your hands are full of blood,” he said, quoting the book of Isaiah.
“Jesus is the King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war. He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them. Christ, King of Peace, cries out again from His cross: God is love! Have mercy! Lay down your weapons! Remember that you are brothers and sisters!. The tears of all the victims of violence and pain will soon be dried up like frost beneath the spring sun” he added.
