Dizl’s Harvest Vibes: A Garden Field of Hope, Perseverance, and Purpose

Quick Read

Harvest Vibes begins with a string of chords that invites the mind and the body, on a journey to self. It wasn’t a string of chords but of hearts and minds. One the listener cannot resist; for when the heart and mind beckons on the soul, it answers.

By Emmanuel Daraloye

Olaide Aroyewun, popularly known to fans as Dizl, delivers a masterpiece with Harvest Vibes. Harvesting is never accidental; it follows planting, watering, weeding, fertilizing, and the patience to see growth through. It is the reward that comes only after the process has run its course; the final stage of cultivation, just before preservation and care. The brilliance behind the title is strikingly intentional. In Harvest Vibes, Dizl sets out to preach, enlighten, and motivate, as all meaningful music should. Yet he does not abandon memory; instead, he reminisces reflections on the past, the present, and the future into the soundscape. What makes Harvest Vibes evergreen? What sets it apart? And why should listeners keep returning to its melody and rhythm?

Harvest Vibes begins with a string of chords that invites the mind and the body, on a journey to self. It wasn’t a string of chords but of hearts and minds. One the listener cannot resist; for when the heart and mind beckons on the soul, it answers.

palm wine cup in my right hand, left hand no gree slow down. Ankara pull off on the waist band… laughter dey roll like drumline.

The above lines make conspicuous what Dizl preaches in Harvest Vibe; melancholy, purpose, happiness and fun. Hardly does one get to hear a Nigerian song that doesn’t have an element of melancholy. Although grief is a universal phenomenon, Nigeria seems to be at the forefront of its dominance. Sadness is unarguably one of the many elements that drives the machinery of our musical culture. Others are love, money, women, and sex. In the above quoted lines, the artist could be seen gulping a cup of palm wine, one of the historical drinks of the Igbo people of Nigeria. Palm wine in this context functions as alcohol. There are many reasons why people drink. Some drink to celebrate, heal, and other times,  to heal. The artiste belongs to the later gang, presumably.

The journey of healing begins with forgetfulness, sometimes remembrance. For Dizl, it’s with forgetfulness. As he drinks and happiness sets in, Ankara drops off from the waist. Laughter rushes, uncontrollably. To further entertain joy, Dizl dances in a way that reminds him of his grandmother. Small small stepping in the circle, Grandma dance still shine.

Harvest Vibes also preaches hope and purpose, as evident in these lines: We go dey alright. Everybody shout make we grind the night. We dey groove tonight. Once again, Dizl reconfirms the saying that when hope fuels one’s ambition, there’s no limit to how far they can dream. Amidst the sadness, the melancholy that made the artiste seek solace in palmwine, he remained hopeful, calling forth his fans who are also grieving, for a dance.

Unity, peace and harmony sets into play in the lines; body to body we go move as one, ‘cause there is no way you no go see longtime. Dem dey wait in the front line. The lines make us understand that the kind of joy Dizl yearns for is not personal, but a collective one. In accordance with the teachings of the scripture, Dizl wants for his fans as he wants for himself.

Catch this joy make you stay fire, just try small and we jump up… this our season we go enjoy. The scripture says “ask and it shall be given”. Dizl thereby claimed the season as His, asking for enjoyment; for himself and his fans.

Rhetorically, he asks “who go feel am” he answers by himself, “them go feel am”. Who go tire?/ We not fire tire. Here, Dizl hints on endurance and perseverance.

Harvest Vibes is the song for every season, eternally evergreen. The lyrics are deep, the melody is blissful, and the rhythm; electric. It’s a song that feels like a homecoming, a reminder that the role of music in lifting souls and spirits even in hard times, cannot be overstated. The production effortlessly blends traditional styles and patterns with global textures, birthing a music that is fresh and bold. When a song is unique, there are no limits to the boundaries it breaks or souls it reconciles.

Dizl’s vocal delivery is worthy of praise too. How he goes about saying so much with little ease, calling forth each fan, for a personal yet communal message. The chorus sends shivers down the spines of listeners, uniting them for a common purpose. Dizl’s storytelling and narration skills are enviable,  maintaining  fluidity from the very first second to the last with awestrucking finesse. With songs like Harvest Vibe, Nigeria yet again reasserts her spot in the global chart of musical excellence.
