Ghana sack coach Otto Addo weeks before World Cup
Quick Read
The decision comes shortly after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany national football team in an international friendly on Monday in Stuttgart, where Deniz Undav scored a late winner for the hosts.
The Ghana Football Association has sacked head coach Otto Addo, less than three months before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision comes shortly after Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany national football team in an international friendly on Monday in Stuttgart, where Deniz Undav scored a late winner for the hosts.
The loss extended the Black Stars’ poor run of form to four consecutive defeats, including a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria last week.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the GFA expressed appreciation for Addo’s efforts during his tenure.
“The association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” the statement read.
The football body added that it will soon announce a new technical direction for the national team.
Addo, 50, was appointed in March 2024 and had been overseeing preparations for the World Cup.
Ghana are drawn in Group competition alongside England, Croatia and Panama for the tournament scheduled to take place in North America later this year.
