Wike cautioned against what he described as a growing haste among political actors seeking endorsements ahead of future elections, warning that premature alignments could undermine unity within their ranks.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that he is backing any aspirant for political office in Rivers State, stressing that such decisions will be taken collectively by party elders at the appropriate time.

He made the remarks on Monday night while addressing a joint meeting of stakeholders from the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party at his official residence in Life Camp, Abuja.

Wike cautioned against what he described as a growing haste among political actors seeking endorsements ahead of future elections, warning that premature alignments could undermine unity within their ranks.

He said the strength of the group lies in its cohesion, not financial influence, noting that their collaboration has unsettled some interests.

“If we were not working together, if we were not united, it would be difficult,” he said. “People are not happy that we are working together, so they must find anything to make sure we are divided.”

The minister alleged that efforts were already underway to sow discord among stakeholders, urging members to remain vigilant and committed to their shared goals.

He also expressed displeasure over the conduct of certain individuals who, after benefiting from political appointments facilitated by the group, have turned against its leadership.

“Woe be unto the person that we have given an appointment who goes back to castigate,” Wike said, adding that such behaviour reflected a lack of integrity.

Turning to the issue of endorsements, he rejected suggestions that he had privately anointed candidates for state-level positions, insisting that no such decisions had been taken.

“Anything I say in the night is what I will say in the daytime,” he stated, underscoring his claim of consistency and openness.

Wike maintained that the only endorsement currently in place is that of President Bola Tinubu, noting that no individual has been endorsed for positions within either the APC or the PDP in Rivers State.

According to him, consultations among party elders would determine the eventual direction when the time comes.

He commended council chairmen, party leaders and elders from Rivers for their role in organising the meeting, describing the turnout and coordination as commendable.

The minister added that the absence of complaints about exclusion showed that efforts were being made to carry all stakeholders along.
