The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kano, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, on Tuesday formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Gawuna, former Deputy Governor of Kano state under former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, picked his membership form in Gawuna Ward, Nassarawa Local Government Area of the State.
His latest move has ended speculations that he is planning political alliance with former Governor of the state Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, who he served as Commissioner for Agriculture, during his second term.
Gawuna had resigned from the APC and also resigned his position as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria before his defection to ADC.
He was received into the ADC by Senator Kwankwaso.
There are ripe speculations that Kwankwaso has anointed Gawuna as his governorship candidate in the 2027 general election.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who flagged the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) flag, with the full backing of Senator Kwankwaso, defeated Gawuna in the 2023 governorship election in the state.
If Gawuna picks the ADC governorship ticket, indications are that Governor Abba and Gawuna are going to slug it out during the 2027 governorship elections.
Governor Yusuf appears set to become the governorship candidate of APC in the 2027 election.
Pundits have described Gawuna’s latest political move as a major boost for ADC in Kano.
