Vwederianbeat’s audio production of Andre Maos’ hit, “Off Me”, is a reflection of his understanding of music. His attention to detail in the song’s arrangement and composition makes Andre Maos’ rendition intriguing. The carefully paced and restrained instrumental makes the performance deliberate rather than overstated.
The instrumental begins with disciplined minimalism as Vwederian sets the song’s tone from the opening seconds. There’s a start of the song with a sound that’s just like a bell, which signals the arrival of the performer. Following is Andre Maos’ silky vocal, saying the song’s title, “Off Me”, indicating his arrival. The maracas shake gently. This adds to the song’s buildup before the thud. Then, the song gives in fully.
With the start of Andre Maos’ verse, Vwederian helps the grooves with more kicks and drums which kicks hard the song’s rhythm. Vwederian’s sense of progression is obvious throughout the song. Rather than relying on dramatic beat switches during the chorus, he keeps the relaxed tempo to emphasise the sonic posture the song invokes.
Despite the instrumental’s appealing tempo that gives the song its elegance, its predictable groove needs to be supported by Andre Maos’ lyrics and vocal phrasing to keep it interesting. His arrangement is flat, lacking the dramatic effect typical of some of the Afrobeats songs.
These minor reservations aside, Vwederian demonstrates how astute he is as a music producer on “Off Me”. His decision to keep the beat steady and unobstructive while Andre Maos delivers a romantic confession to his partner makes the song captivating. With his minimalist production, Vwederian keeps Andre Maos alive to serenade his lover while also winning our hearts.
