Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the internal crisis within the party has ended, calling on former members to return and contribute to rebuilding the party.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, Wike likened politics to a game of football rather than a “fight to finish,” urging aggrieved politicians to set aside personal differences for the party’s progress.

“As far as I’m concerned, the convention has come and gone. People are trooping in. I will say, the door is open. Yes, we have had a crisis. Now the crisis is over. Do we still have to shut our doors? No. Certainly not,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor noted that several former members had already signalled their intention to return, describing the political environment as increasingly favourable for those committed to working for the party.

Wike also criticised the do-or-die mentality in Nigerian politics, stressing that it hinders reconciliation. He framed the party’s recent struggles as misunderstandings rather than permanent fractures.

“Politics is not a fight to finish. It’s like a game, like a football. If you see it as a do or die, it becomes difficult to reconcile. We have had our differences, but if you’re really sincere, there’s nothing left. We can do it together and move the party forward,” he said.

Wike further warned aspiring politicians that political relevance is earned through visibility and hard work, not title alone, and hinted that sidelined members who fail to engage seriously may be excluded from future recognition.

The PDP has been embroiled in a leadership crisis since 2025, with rival factions holding separate conventions and fighting for control of the party in court. Wike’s statement signals a push for reconciliation and unity ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
