A 14-year-old Nigerian teenager, Eghosa Ogbebor, has been shot dead in London, United Kingdom, in a tragic incident that has sparked concern within both the local community and Nigerians in the diaspora.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers responded to reports of a shooting at about 3:40pm on Thursday on Lord Warwick Street in Woolwich. Despite efforts by emergency responders, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although formal identification is yet to be concluded, authorities have named the victim as Eghosa Ogbebor. His family has been informed and is currently receiving support from specially trained officers.

Three suspects-two boys aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody as investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the probe, described the incident as deeply troubling, particularly given the victim’s age.

“Our thoughts remain with Eghosa’s family and loved ones, they have asked for privacy at this difficult time,” she said.

Card added that the killing had heightened anxiety within Woolwich and beyond, noting that police presence in the area had been increased.

“I know the concern this has caused particularly considering Eghosa’s young age. While we have made three arrests, our investigation continues,” she stated.

She urged members of the public with relevant information or footage to come forward to assist ongoing inquiries.
