Nasarawa Police Commissioner, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed has visited Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Udege Development Area of the state 11 people were killed and 50 houses were burnt in suspected retaliatory attack by hoodlums early Friday.
Suspected hoodlums had allegedly carried out the reprisal attack over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen.
In the course of the retaliatory attack, 11 people were killed, while about fifty houses were burnt in Akyawa and two houses in Udege Kasa, SP Ramhan Nansel, Nasarawa police spokesperson said in a statement early Saturday.
According to the statement, during his visit to the affected communities later on Friday, the Commissioner of Police expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and commiserated with the families of the deceased and the entire community.
He assured them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice is served.
Nansel added that during the visit, a stakeholders’ meeting was held here the CP urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information to support ongoing investigations.
CP Shetima had earlier ordered an intensive manhunt for all perpetrators of the heinous act, directing tactical teams and investigative units to ensure their prompt identification, arrest, and prosecution.
To prevent any further breakdown of law and order, the Commissioner also directed the immediate reinforcement and sustained deployment of Police personnel, in synergy with the Military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to provide adequate security and restore lasting peace in the area.
The Nasarawa Police Command also reassured that normalcy has been restored to the affected communities, while proactive measures are in place to prevent any recurrence of violence.
