Rev. Fidelis Barry of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has urged Christians to shun worldly standards and uphold the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Barry, a former Chairman of ECWA Jos District Church Council (DCC), made the call during his sermon at the church service of ECWA English Church, Sabon Tasha, Kaduna on Sunday.

He said that in spite the pressures Christians might face, they should strive to remain steadfast in God’s word and live according to His standards.

“Gradually, the church is moving from being unique and transformed completely to a community that conforms to the pattern of the world,” he decried.

He described Easter as a period for Christians to reflect on the resurrection of Christ and the profound transformation it brought to their lives.

According to him, anyone that encounters the power of Jesus has received power over sin and death because of the resurrection.

“The resurrection of Jesus Christ is profound to our faith as Christians. Christ’s resurrection proves that God has accepted Christ’s death as a full payment for our sins because we were all doomed before this,” he said.

Barry said, though everyone could be experiencing difficulties, the resurrection restored assurance of God’s intervention.

The cleric also prayed for peace in Nigeria, particularly for an end to the Jos Killings.
