Troops of the Nigerian Army have thwarted a terrorist attack on worshippers in Kaduna State, rescuing 31 abducted civilians following a swift military response.
The incident occurred during an Easter service at an ECWA Church in Ariko Village, Kachia Local Government Area, where terrorists reportedly stormed the gathering and abducted worshippers.
According to the Army, troops were immediately mobilised after receiving a distress call, launching a pursuit operation with the support of local community members.
The soldiers engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, overpowering them with superior firepower and forcing them to abandon the captives.
The military confirmed that 31 hostages were successfully rescued, including one injured victim who is currently receiving medical attention.
However, five victims were found dead at the scene, having been killed by the attackers before the arrival of security forces.
“The pressure mounted by the advancing troops forced the terrorists to abandon 31 hostages,” the Army said, noting that blood trails along escape routes suggest the fleeing assailants suffered significant casualties.
Security forces have since intensified operations to track down the fleeing terrorists, with additional troops deployed to the area to reinforce security and prevent further attacks.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that ongoing operations will continue until all threats are neutralised.
It also called on members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information, describing community cooperation as critical to sustaining peace and stability.
