Tunde Lemo, a renowned Nigerian banker and economist with a wealth of experience in the financial sector and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has predicted rise in internally generated revenue of Ogun following inauguration of cargo Airport in the State.
Lemo, who is also a governorship aspirant under the Umbrella of All Progressive Congress, APC, in the 2027 election said this in an interview with journalist yesterday while mobilizing his supporters to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu second term bid expected the airport to significantly boost the state economy.
He opined that the airport will not just boost the Ogun IGR but will also reduce stress and traffic of going to Lagos by Southwest business tycoons and others who will prefer to travel through the state to Abuja instead of going to Lagos to board plane.
“The airport, which will primarily facilitate the export of agricultural products, is anticipated to increase Ogun’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and contribute to Nigeria’s foreign earnings,” he said.
Lemo further expressed optimism that the project would have a positive impact on the state’s economy, citing its potential to enhance export business and create new opportunities for economic growth.
“This is a remarkable achievement. It will help uplift exporting business which is highly needed to boost our economy and foreign earnings,” he said.
Lemo predicted that if the project is successfully implemented, Ogun State could become one of the top three states in terms of IGR within the next five years.
The cargo airport is expected to play a significant role in promoting agricultural exports, thereby boosting the state’s GDP.
Lemo also lauded President Tinubu for coming to commission the laudable projects done by Governor Dapo Abiodun for the benefit of all.
“This is a welcome project, and it has come to stay I congratulations Prince Dapo Abiodun and the People of Ogun state for these wonderful and laudable projects,” Lemo said.
