Bayern Munich secured a crucial 2-1 away victory over Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first-leg encounter, dealing a significant blow to the Spanish side’s hopes ahead of the return leg.

The German champions struck first in the 41st minute when Luis Díaz finished from close range after being set up by Serge Gnabry, silencing the home crowd and giving Bayern a deserved lead going into the break.

Bayern extended their advantage immediately after the restart, with Harry Kane firing a precise shot into the bottom corner in the 46th minute following an assist from Michael Olise, putting the visitors firmly in control of proceedings.

Real Madrid responded in the 74th minute when Kylian Mbappé capitalised on a well-timed pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold to reduce the deficit, setting up a tense finale as the hosts pushed for an equaliser.

Despite late pressure, including several attempts from Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior, Bayern’s defence held firm, with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer producing a series of key saves to preserve the lead.

The match was marked by high intensity and tactical discipline from both sides, with Bayern’s clinical finishing ultimately proving decisive. Real Madrid, on the other hand, were left to rue missed opportunities in front of goal.

The result gives Bayern Munich a valuable advantage heading into the second leg, while Real Madrid must now overturn the deficit to keep their Champions League ambitions alive.
