The Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, has been selected as the venue for two international friendly matches between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and the Cape Verde women’s national team.
The double-header encounters are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 15, and Saturday, April 18, 2026. These matches are part of both teams’ preparations for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they will aim to compete strongly against other top African sides.
The Super Falcons, who are Africa’s most successful women’s football team, will be looking to use the friendlies to test their squad, improve team chemistry, and give opportunities to both experienced players and new talents.
The coaching crew is expected to closely monitor performances as they build a solid team ahead of the continental tournament.
Nigeria has a good record against Cape Verde from their previous meetings. During the 2023 WAFCON qualifiers, the Super Falcons defeated Cape Verde 2-1 in the first leg played away from home.
They followed it up with an impressive 5-0 victory in the return leg on home soil, showing their dominance.
The team is expected to open its training camp in Abuja this weekend, where players will begin preparations before traveling to Ikenne for the matches.
Football fans in Ogun State and nearby areas are expected to turn out in large numbers to support the Super Falcons as they continue their build-up to WAFCON 2026.
These friendlies will also provide an opportunity for the coaching staff to assess the team’s readiness, work on tactics, and address any weaknesses before the main tournament begins.
