OG Emmy reveals inspiration behind new single ‘DND’

Fast-rising artiste, OG Emmy, has opened up on the inspiration behind his newly released single titled “DND,” describing the track as a reflection of real-life emotions, quiet connections, and the complexities of modern relationships.

In an exclusive interview with PM News, the singer shared insights into the story behind the song, his creative process, and what fans can expect from him in the coming months.

Speaking on what inspired “DND,” OG Emmy revealed that the song draws heavily from personal experiences and relatable situations.

“This song was really inspired by real-life situations. You know when you’re in that space where you’ve got attention from different girls, but there’s that one you actually vibe with differently. It’s that feeling of trying to keep things lowkey but still having that strong connection. It’s very honest, very real,” he said.

The artiste noted that the track mirrors his current mindset, especially his evolving understanding of relationships and personal energy.

“Right now I’m in a space where I understand energy more. Not everything has to be loud or public. Sometimes the real connection is the one you protect. So this song reflects that balance between having options and still valuing something genuine,” he explained.

According to him, “DND” carries a subtle but powerful message about authenticity and discretion in a world filled with distractions.

“Even in a world full of distractions, you can still find someone that stands out. But at the same time, not everything needs to be broadcasted. Some things are better kept lowkey and real,” OG Emmy added.

On the creative process behind the song, the artiste disclosed that the inspiration came almost instantly after hearing the beat, which set the tone for the entire production.

“It started with the vibe first. Once I heard the beat, I already knew the direction — something smooth but catchy. I freestyled a lot of it, especially the hook, because I wanted it to feel natural and relatable. Then I built the verses around that feeling, just telling the story in a simple but melodic way,” he said.

Looking ahead, OG Emmy assured fans of more music and consistent releases, hinting at upcoming collaborations both within and outside Nigeria.

“Definitely more music, more consistency. I’m working on a couple of singles and also looking at some collaborations, both locally and internationally. I’m just building my sound and making sure every release shows growth,” he disclosed.

The singer also expressed satisfaction with the early reception of “DND,” noting that listeners have already begun to connect with the song’s vibe.

“The response has been solid, I can’t lie. People are connecting with the vibe, especially the hook. I just want listeners to feel it, whether they relate to the story or just enjoy the energy. If it makes you vibe or think about someone, then I’ve done my job,” he said.

OG Emmy further highlighted his excitement about performing the track live, describing it as a song that would resonate strongly with audiences during shows.

“Definitely performing it live. I feel like this is one of those songs where the crowd will sing along, especially the chorus. That connection in real time, that’s what I’m really looking forward to,” he added.
