A 35-year-old housewife identified as Maureen Okirie has been arrested for allegedly clubbing Stanley Okirie, her 38-year-old husband to death with a pestle and thereafter attempting to secretly bury him with the aid of two teenagers who are relations of the deceased.

Maureen was arrested alongside two teenage cousins of Stanley identified as Salia Karikari and Jubril who were both 12 years old by detectives of the Ajuwon Division of Ogun state police command.

The Command, in a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi revealed that the suspects were apprehended on Thursday, 9th April 2026, at about 11:15hrs, following an anonymous tip-off regarding suspicious activities in the area.

He added that based on the information, detectives arrived at the scene and caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-drenched corpse in a shallow grave, in what is suspected to be an effort to conceal the crime.

The Ogun Police Command spokesperson said preliminary examination of the body revealed a severe injury to the victim’s head.

He added that further investigation indicates that the victim was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while the other suspects, who are relatives of the deceased, conspired in the commission of the crime and the attempted cover-up.

Babaseyi said the weapon used for clubbing Stanley to death has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary, Olambe, for autopsy.

The suspects, he said, are currently in police custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

Babaseyi quoted Ogun Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni as condemning the act, described it as a cruel, inhumane and deeply disturbing incident, particularly as it involved close family members.

He further quoted Ojajuni as emphasizing that such acts of violence and attempts to conceal crimes will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
