President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to defeat terrorism and banditry, pledging sustained investment in Nigeria’s armed forces during an official visit to Bayelsa State.

Speaking on Friday while commissioning key projects in the state, Tinubu declared that his government would continue to equip and train security personnel to confront insurgency and other violent threats across the country.

“We will continue to equip and train our men and women of the armed forces. We will defeat terrorism and banditry,” the President said, underscoring what he described as a non-negotiable commitment to national security.

The President’s remarks come against the backdrop of heightened security concerns, particularly in the North-East, where troops recently repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on a military formation in Benisheikh, Borno State, albeit with casualties recorded among soldiers.

Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices of security personnel and called for a moment of reflection in honour of fallen troops, describing them as patriots who stood “between danger and the rest of the nation.”

Beyond security, the President linked the fight against terrorism to broader governance objectives, stressing that infrastructure development and economic opportunities remain central to stabilising the country.

He noted that his administration was focused on delivering tangible benefits through roads, power, jobs and other projects capable of improving livelihoods and reducing the conditions that often fuel insecurity.

However, Tinubu maintained that ongoing military operations and reforms within the security architecture were yielding results, insisting that insurgents were under increasing pressure from sustained offensives.

Meanwhile, the President also commissioned several infrastructure projects executed by the administration of Governor Douye Diri, including the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, the Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, and a 2.9-kilometre dual carriageway in Yenagoa.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Bayelsa Government House, Tinubu commended the state government for delivering the independent power project, describing it as a critical step towards improving energy access and driving economic growth.

He said the people of Bayelsa deserved to see governance reflected in tangible development and improved living standards.

“We are all working hard. Independent power supply is a good development. I assure Nigerians that electricity will be available to power growth and prosperity,” the President said.

Tinubu urged the state government to sustain the momentum by implementing more people-focused projects, while assuring of continued Federal Government support to accelerate development in the state.

In his remarks, Governor Diri expressed appreciation to the President for the visit and for inaugurating the projects, describing him as a longstanding ally of Bayelsa.

He said the Federal Government’s policy direction in the power sector had created an enabling environment for states to pursue independent energy solutions.

“Your administration’s policy interventions have made it possible for us to deliver on our promise of reliable, independent power through these gas-powered turbines.

“For us, this is more than an achievement; it is a moment of fulfilment and celebration,” Diri said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event attracted several dignitaries, including former President Goodluck Jonathan.
