“The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond,” the statement said

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of a looming cult-related clash in parts of the state, assuring residents that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain order.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command addressed a circulating message alleging a possible clash in areas including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and Ishaga, said to be in retaliation for an earlier incident.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond,” the statement said.

According to the police, personnel and operational assets were swiftly deployed to the identified locations and adjoining communities immediately after the initial report surfaced.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has ordered intensified patrols and increased visibility in the flashpoints to ensure residents’ safety.

“The areas are well secured, and adequate security coverage has been emplaced to deter any unlawful gatherings or activities,” the Command added.

Residents were urged not to panic, with the police stressing that there was “no cause for alarm” and encouraging people to go about their lawful activities without fear.

While acknowledging public concern, the Command cautioned against the spread of unverified information.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard unverified rumours capable of creating panic and instead rely on credible information from official sources,” it said.

The police also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements to the nearest station or through its emergency lines.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Command said it “remains resolute in its duty to protect all residents and will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure that peace prevails across the State.”
