Why we pray for Nigeria daily – Ghana’s President Mahama

President John Mahama of Ghana has said he prays daily for Nigeria to overcome rising insecurity, warning that the country’s stability is crucial for the region and the African continent as a whole.

Speaking at an award ceremony in Ghana, Mahama highlighted the impact of Nigeria’s insecurity on neighboring countries, emphasizing that millions of Nigerians migrating could affect smaller nations like Ghana.

“Nigeria is of keen security interest to us. If Nigeria does well, Ghana does well. I mean, when you have cousins, 250 million of them, you’ll want them to do well so that one million of them don’t come drifting towards a small country like Ghana,” he said.

The president recalled historical migrations from Nigeria, noting that many Nigerians in Ghana traced their roots to the Yoruba Kingdom, underlining the deep social and cultural ties between the two countries.

“Every day I wake up, I pray for Nigeria. I say, ‘God, let Nigeria get their act together,’” Mahama added.

His comments come shortly after the Nigerian Military suffered significant losses in its fight against insurgents in the Northeast. In Maiduguri, Borno State, Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, condoled with the military over recent attacks that claimed the lives of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and other soldiers.
