Katy Perry under Police investigation over sexual assault

US pop star Katy Perry is under investigation in Australia over historical sexual assault allegations made by actor Ruby Rose, authorities and media reports confirmed on Wednesday.

Rose, known for her role in Orange is the New Black, previously shared a series of social media posts, now deleted, claiming that Perry assaulted her in a Melbourne nightclub nearly two decades ago.

On Tuesday, Rose said she had finalized reports with police, adding that she could no longer comment publicly on the matter.

Victoria State Police confirmed they are investigating “a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010” but declined to name Perry directly. A spokesperson said:

“As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”

Perry’s representatives strongly denied the allegations in a statement to Variety:

“The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are also dangerous, reckless lies. Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”

The singer, famous for hits including Hot n Cold, Roar, and I Kissed a Girl, has recently been in the headlines for her relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details have been released by Victoria police.
