A medical doctor, Dr Ere Siana Sintei Ogbachi, has died following complications shortly after delivering triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital (NDUTH), Okolobiri, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Family sources said the deceased, who was a registrar at NDUTH, was initially stabilised after the delivery but later developed complications that necessitated her transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa.
She was confirmed dead in the early hours of April 14, 2026.
In a statement shared by a family member, Meshack N. Sintei, the family described her death as a painful loss, noting that she battled to survive despite efforts by medical personnel to save her life.
According to him, doctors at FMC Yenagoa made sustained attempts to revive her as her condition deteriorated.
He said medical equipment monitoring her vital signs showed a steady decline before she eventually passed on.
The late doctor was described as a dedicated professional and a committed family woman.
Until her death, she was a wife, a mother to the newborn triplets, a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), and an alumna of the Niger Delta University.
Her death has sparked grief among colleagues, family members and the wider medical community, with many describing it as a tragic loss.
The family expressed appreciation to friends, colleagues and well-wishers for their support during the difficult period.
